It is the question we are asked most at the counter, often before anyone asks about prices. The answer fits in one sentence: around Torrevieja the terrain does not decide, the distance you feel like covering does, along with the wind you will have on the way back.
The ground is flat, and that changes everything
Between Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa the coast is low and the promenades follow the sea without a single real climb. A city bike goes everywhere here. The two real difficulties lie elsewhere: the sea breeze, which often picks up in the afternoon and is felt mostly on the way home, and the length of the ride, which always stretches further than planned once you start linking coves.
A city bike is enough in most cases
Our city bike is a 28 inch Dutch-style model with an upright riding position. You look at the landscape instead of the front wheel, you can put a foot down without leaving the saddle, and you set off again without thinking about it. For the seafront promenade, the town centre, a morning at the beach or a ten kilometre round trip, it does exactly the job. It is also the easiest bike to hand to someone who has not ridden for years.
What the motor really changes
Our electric bike is a Fiido C11 Pro, a city model with a range that can reach 100 km. The motor is not there to make you faster, it is there so the end of the ride feels like the beginning. It earns its keep in four situations: you are riding several days in a row, you are aiming for a long outing, you are riding with someone of a different level, or you are heading home into the wind with a beach bag on the rack. In those cases the question is no longer comfort, it is getting back happy.
What is included either way
The bike serviced before you leave, a helmet in your size and a lock, so you can leave the bike while you visit something. The electric bike goes out with a full battery. A pannier bag or a child seat can be added as an option, subject to availability. Pick-up is in Torrevieja, at Playa de los Locos, or in Orihuela Costa, at Cabo Roig.
Our rule, if you want to decide quickly
A ride of under ten kilometres, on the flat, alone or with family: the city bike. A longer ride, several days in a row, a group with mixed levels or simply no wish to do the maths: the electric bike. And if you are still unsure, tell us where you want to go, that settles it faster than a list of specifications.
For a first ride idea, the Torrevieja Vía Verde works well on either bike. The beaches of Torrevieja are listed by the tourist office if you are looking for somewhere to stop. Otherwise, see our city bikes, our electric bikes and the FAQ for practical questions.
